After 4 years of working on IT projects as a Lead and being in charge of sifting through the candidates needed to staff the projects, I learned that I completely ignored the objective on the candidates’ resumes. It had no bearing, as far as I was concerned, to provide any useful information to assist in my quest to find matches for the job descriptions. My focus was 90% (or more) on what the people had done in their previous positions and that was all I wanted to take the time to read.

Therefore, I have taken this experience and applied it to the development of people’s resumes. I do not spend time trying to come up with an objective to put into a resume. Leave that for the cover letter or email cover sent with the resume.
